More about Marina
What is fascia yoga?
Faszien Yoga is a form of yoga that focuses on stretching and strengthening the fasciae. Fasciae are the connective tissue in our body that surrounds muscles, bones, and organs.
Through specific exercises and movements in fascia yoga, as well as myofascial techniques combined with rolling out the fascia using a foam roller and fascia balls, you improve the flexibility and elasticity of the fasciae.
It is an effective method for releasing tension, increasing mobility, and enhancing overall well-being.
What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga is a calm, passive, and meditative style of yoga. You usually practice it without muscular effort and mainly in seated or lying postures, making it very gentle on the joints. The effects of Yin Yoga are defined by holding asanas for a long time—you remain in a posture for around three to five minutes. The aim is to relax in the poses, tune inward, and let the breath flow freely, so you can arrive at inner calm.
Because of the long holds, you stretch muscles, ligaments, and tendons thoroughly and also include the deeper connective tissue—the fascia—in the stretch. This helps you gain greater range of motion, more supple joints, and overall softness and flexibility.
Yin Yoga connects yoga with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The individual Yin Yoga postures are also related to the Five Elements—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.
Each phase is connected to an element and specific organs. Each element, also called a transformation phase, is assigned to a season. Through Yin Yoga, we have the opportunity to come into harmony with the forces of nature—within and without.
What is the difference between Yin Yoga & Fascia Yoga?
Fascia Yoga and Yin Yoga are both forms of yoga that focus on stretching and relaxation, but there are some differences between the two.
Fascia Yoga places the emphasis on working with the fascia—the connective tissue in our body. Through specific exercises and movements, the fascia is stretched and strengthened to improve its flexibility and elasticity. Fascia Yoga can help release tension, increase mobility, and enhance overall well-being.
Yin Yoga, on the other hand, is a slow and meditative form of yoga in which the asanas (yoga postures) are held for a longer time, usually between three and five minutes. The focus is on stretching the deeper layers of connective tissue, such as the fascia, tendons, and ligaments. Yin Yoga aims to improve flexibility, balance the flow of energy in the body, and encourage deep relaxation.
Another difference lies in the intensity and pace of the two practices. Fascia Yoga can be more dynamic and may also include movements and transitions between postures. Yin Yoga, however, is calmer and focuses on holding postures for longer to achieve a deeper stretch.
It’s important to note that both Fascia Yoga and Yin Yoga have their own benefits and may be experienced differently by each person. It can be helpful to try both practices and see which one best suits your individual needs and goals.
